On July 13-16, the Anti-Corruption Agency, together with the UNDP Office in Uzbekistan, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the State Committee for Family and Women Affairs, organized a training on the theme ‘Strengthening the role and increasing the activity of women in countering corruption in the Republic of Uzbekistan.’
The training brought together about 100 representatives from more than 40 government agencies and organizations. Representatives of NGOs, the media and public activists also took part in the event.
For reference: The training was conducted within the framework of the project ‘Strengthening civic space, voice of women and youth to enhance the role of the Agency for Counteracting Corruption in Uzbekistan’ between the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP, which provides for the involvement of women in the fight against corruption and increasing their capacity in this process.
The main goal of the training was to strengthen the role and increase the activity of women working in government agencies and organizations, NGOs and the media, as well as public activists and bloggers in the fight against corruption in the country, as well as to advance their knowledge and skills in this area.
According to the training organizers, in many societies women regularly face problems related to corruption, unfortunately, cases of everyday corruption in education, health care and access to public services are still common. “To effectively prevent similar and other corruption situations, it is necessary to advance women’s knowledge in this area, use appropriate methods and tools, increase their social activity, developing an intolerant attitude towards corruption in society,” they noted.
For this purpose, the project ‘Strengthening civic space, voice of women and youth to enhance the role of the Agency for Counteracting Corruption in Uzbekistan’ was launched, and this training was one of the important steps in this track.
Alyona Vandysheva and Andrey Zhvirblis, international experts from Transparency International, were invited as trainers.
They shared detailed information about the role of women in the fight against corruption and the achievement of sustainable development goals, collective action in the fight against corruption and the involvement of society in this process.
The training attendees together with the experts analyzed the activities of the state authorities, the interaction of society and the government, and best practices in this area.
Representatives of NGOs, the media and public activists discussed the best practices and effective tools in the fight against corruption, as well as issues of involving members of the public in this process. Approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of anti-corruption projects and achieving sustainable development goals were considered.
In addition, experts provided the training attendees with useful information on how to work with sources and open data.
Following the training, participants received certificates.
