The Anti-Corruption Agency received an appeal from citizen M.D. with a complaint against the actions of former officials of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports. On the basis of this appeal, a study was conducted. The Agency reports the following.
For an impartial study of the situation, a working group was formed, consisting of specialists of the competent authorities. The working group identified financial errors and violations committed by officials of the former Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports.
In particular, 334 million soums, 20,680 EUR and 1,500 USD were allocated from the state budget to ensure the participation of the national team of Uzbekistan in the rowing tournament and training camp in 2019 in Piediluco, Italy. However, the study showed the absence of documents confirming the funds spent on these international events.
In 2019, at the international synchronized swimming competitions in Tokyo and Beijing, the Ministry officials allowed extra expenses in the amount of 1,015 USD.
In addition, in 2020, the Ministry signed 45 contracts worth 15 billion soums with Mashkhim LLC, Arabboy Sport PE and Sport Jihoz Lux PE for the purchase of sports equipment at the expense of budgetary funds. The study revealed the absence of documents confirming the transfer for use of sports equipment purchased under 6 contracts in the amount of 2.9 billion soums.
The collected materials were sent to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan for a legal assessment.
Based on the results of the pre-investigation check, the Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under paragraph A of part 3 of Article 167 and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Investigations are currently underway.
