The Anti-Corruption Agency conducts a monthly rating assessment of the effectiveness of anti-corruption reforms and the level of intolerance of the population towards corruption.
The 2021 assessment results showed that Andijan Region failed in all indicators.
For example, the region recorded the largest number of corruption crimes over the past three months. Andijan Region ranks first among the regions, the population of which applies to the Virtual Reception of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and people’s receptions most of all on the facts of corruption.
These figures indicate that the system of combating and preventing corruption in Andijan Region needs to be radically revised.
The regular meeting of the Andijan Regional Anti-Corruption Council discussed these and other relevant issues.
The participants of the event reviewed the current state of the anti-corruption system in the regional, city and district administrations.
According to the analysis, in 2021, 18 criminal cases against 22 individuals were sent to court. They were charged with embezzlement, fraud, bribery and abuse of office. Four of them are employees of regional administration, 18 are employees of district and city administrations.
At the meeting noted that such figures cast a shadow on the anti-corruption reforms being carried out by the President and undermine the confidence of the population. The prosecutor of the region and the deputy head of the region reported to the audience on the causes of such crimes, and provided information on the measures that need to be taken to prevent them.
At the meeting, criticism was expressed against the Regional Anti-Corruption Council, which is inefficiently fulfilling its duties.
And the fact that, in the rating assessment of the effectiveness of the activities of regional anti-corruption councils for 2021, Andijan Region came ninth, is a confirmation of this.
“In a month, the activities of the regions will be assessed for the first half of 2022, and all the results will be announced in the media and will be discussed at a meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council. But even during this period, we do not see positive changes in the work of the Regional Council. I think that each member of the Council should feel his/her responsibility in the fight against corruption,” Umida Tukhtasheva, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, the participants identified goals and objectives for further improvement of work to prevent corruption in the region. In particular, issues that need to be addressed in order to further increase the efficiency of the Council’s work were discussed in detail. An agreement was also reached on taking specific measures to increase the responsibility of Council members.
