The Anti-Corruption Agency, within the framework of the Anti-Corruption Week, timed to December 9, the International Anti-Corruption Day, has organized a dialogue with representatives of nongovernmental nonprofit organizations on the topic “Involving representatives of civil society institutions in combating corruption: problems and solutions”.
The event, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor General’s Office, UNDP, UNODC and Regional Dialogue International Nongovernmental Organization, Slovenia, brought together more than 40 representatives of NGOs.
Through this dialogue, it is planned to widely involve civil society institutions, in particular, representatives of NGOs in the processes of combating corruption, strengthening their participation in ensuring the implementation of reforms in the sphere, as well as discussing issues of further strengthening cooperation in this area.
The dialogue participants discussed the problems that hinder the full use of the capabilities of NGOs in the field of combating corruption, as well as concrete and practical solutions to eliminate them.
The event also discussed new methods and tools for combating corruption for NGOs, studying the best practices of foreign countries in these processes, mechanisms for preventing corruption, forming and disseminating principles of integrity through the media.
UNDP and the Regional Dialogue International NGO experts from made focus on the main measures aimed at minimizing corruption in civil society, important aspects of the participation of NGOs in the fight against corruption, and best foreign experience in this area.
The implementation of social projects related to the prevention and fight against corruption based on the implementation of social partnership and public control together with NGOs was also considered.
As part of the dialogue, the presentation was held of the winners of the Joint Contest “Involving Civil Society Institutions in the Development and Implementation of Innovations in Preventing and Combating Corruption”.
For reference: The Joint Contest was held from June 17 to July 10, 2022 conducted by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor’s Office, together with the UNDP Projects ‘Preventing Corruption through Effective, Accountable and Transparent Institutions of Governance in Uzbekistan’ and ‘Strengthening civic space, voice of women and youth to enhance the role of the Anti-Corruption Agency in Uzbekistan’. 9 NGOs won the Contest and implemented their anti-corruption projects.
In the presentations, it was noted that during the implementation of the projects, the qualification of journalists were improved, trainings were held to increase the activity of women, a co-working center was created for students and young people, integrity lessons were held for schoolchildren in the regions, manuals were issued for schools and preschool educational institutions containing information about corruption.
Following the event, proposals were made to increase the importance of NGOs in the life of the government and society by involving NGOs in conducting sociological research related to the identification of corruption risks and the study of their causes.
The dialogue participants expressed their opinions on the need to strengthen cooperation between NGOs and experts working in this area.
