On 20 May 2021, members of the delegation met with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as with the Head of the Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General, the Deputy Prosecutor General and the Executive Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
In a meeting with the Prosecutor General, members of the delegation were briefed on the role of the Prosecutor's Office in the fight against corruption, practical experience, international legal mechanisms, as well as interaction with non-governmental organisations and instruments for the protection of citizens' rights.
During the meeting with the representatives of the Main Department and the Commission the experience of Azerbaijan in implementation of the state anti-corruption policy, analysis of its effectiveness and coordination of activities of state bodies and analysis of corruption data, experience in compensation of material damage caused by corruption offences were studied. They were also familiarised with the effectiveness of the use of information technologies and electronic programmes in the activities of the agencies and the implementation of international anti-corruption standards in the national legislation.
The practical importance of Azerbaijan's membership of the Group of States against Corruption within the European Union (GREKO), its role in developing the system and plans for the future were discussed.
At the same time, information was received about the importance of protecting whistleblowers, and a special "call centre" created in this regard.
As a result of the meetings, it was agreed to sign mutual cooperation agreements between the Agency, the Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General and the Anti-Corruption Commission to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and systematically share best practices and special knowledge.
