By the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 29, 2020, has been given the task to create territorial anti-corruption councils in all regions of the country.
To accomplish this task, the first meeting of the Andijan Territorial Anti - Corruption Council was held on September 22 of the current year. The members of the National Council for Combating Corruption, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the authority of the regional khokimiyat and representatives of the general public put in an appearance at the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, it was noted that in recent past the fight against corruption in our country has become the priority of state policy, which led to a number of positive legal acts be adopted.
Yet, despite the systemic measures taken, corruption persists in the regions in the use of budget funds, public procurement, capital construction, particularly, in the Andijan region in 2019-2020 and in the past 2021, 843 officials were prosecuted for corruption offenses at various levels. This figure demonstrates that the scope of measures to be taken before the newly formed territorial council is enormous.
During the meeting, the main tasks and responsibilities of the territorial councils have been also touched on.
Specifically,
- Adoption of decisions aimed at improving the efficiency of bodies and organizations to combat corruption in the Andijan region;
- To submit proposals to the National Council for Combating Corruption on improving legislation and law enforcement practice;
- Hearing reports and proceedings of heads of territorial state bodies carrying out anti-corruption activities.
Likewise, decisions were made to develop specific measures for the territorial council to identify the causes of corruption in the region and hold each member accountable.
