Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan met February 8 with Konstantin Obolensky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Officials of the Agency and the Swiss Embassy also attended the meeting.
For reference: in 2021, Switzerland ranked 7th in the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.
The guests were given a brief overview of the activities of the Agency and its role in the reforms carried out in the country in the field of combating corruption.
In turn, the Swiss Ambassador noted that Uzbekistan is taking significant measures to combat corruption, with an important role played by systemic reforms, as well as major improvements in anti-corruption legislation, public participation in the fight against corruption and ethical standards in the civil service.
In order to develop bilateral cooperation, the meeting participants voiced proposals for establishing direct contacts with the Interdepartmental Working Group on Combating Corruption to exchange experience and information, as well as implementing joint projects, organizing workshops and trainings.
