The theme of corruption is one of the most acute for the media coverage. Representatives of mass media is tirelessly fighting this scourge through active public scrutiny.
Thus, for further increasing the capacity of the media to cover the problems and threats of corruption in society, as well as actions implemented to fight against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Agency and the Center for Retraining of Journalists of Uzbekistan organized a training session on the theme ‘Enhancing skills of journalists, bloggers and NGO activists in covering anti-corruption actions.’
The training, organized in Karshi city this February 10-11, brought together journalists and bloggers from Kashkadarya Region.
During the event, renowned media trainers and representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency introduced the participants to the types of corruption, the basics of national and international anti-corruption legislation, international experience, and journalistic safety in covering corruption issues.
The training program also included mechanisms for the correct formulation of propaganda in the field of combating corruption and doing investigative reporting.
Of course, there are relevant and at the same time sensitive aspects in covering corruption, in particular, in conducting investigative reporting, such as the correct analysis and interpretation of facts, effective work with legislation, respect for professional ethics and personal boundaries. Particular attention was paid namely to these aspects, as well as to the issues of the journalist’s responsibility for justified criticism, presentation of the necessary conclusions and specific solutions.
The participants of the training honed their skills in cultivating in citizens of intolerant attitude towards corruption through the media (videos, the Internet and other media materials) and establishing effective interaction with law enforcement agencies.
