Transformation of consciousness and thinking of the population is a key in the fight against corruption, as without it any radical measures, including strong and stable control system, will not be effective enough. Transformation in this regard begins with each of us and ultimately unites the entire society around a single goal - intolerance to corruption. Today’s socio-economic development of the new Uzbekistan needs such an important driving force as the ‘integrity vaccine’.
These aspects were emphasized at the conference ‘Integrity Vaccine Is a Key to Development’, held at the Abu Rayhon Beruni Institute of Oriental Studies in Tashkent.
The event has become another platform for discussing measures for the effective organization of anti-corruption activities, urgent tasks and long-term goals.
Representatives of a number of ministries and departments, in particular the Committee on Judicial and Legal Issues and Combating Corruption of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, officials of the Anti-Corruption Agency shared views on conceptual legal acts, administrative reforms aimed at preventing corruption and increasing their effectiveness.
In particular, the current state of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On measures to create an environment of intolerant attitude towards corruption, radically reduce corruption factors in state and public administration, as well as broad public involvement in this process’ and the Resolution of the President ‘On additional measures for the effective organization of anti-corruption activities’, as well as progress achieved and expected new results, were on the focus of the conference participants.
The cultural event took place within the conference, which hosted the presentation of the book ‘Corruption through the Eyes of Youth’.
The organizers noted that the book is a kind of unique product of the Essay Contest ‘Corruption in the Young Minds’, organized on the basis of the ideas put forward in the Address of the President to the Oliy Majlis, the main purpose of which was to increase the legal knowledge of secondary school students, expand their horizons and think about corruption, form intolerance towards this evil.
More than 445 thousand school students from 8,642 public schools took part in the Essay Contest reflecting their views on corruption and the fight against it. Of these, the creative works of 84 school students were selected, which were included in the book ‘Corruption through the Eyes of Youth’.
The new book is important in that it serves to acquaint young people who want to see today and tomorrow free from corruption with their views, proposals and goals regarding this social evil.
Following the conference, further tasks of joint work to eradicate corruption, increase public awareness in the fight against corruption, and educational activities aimed at increasing legal literacy and public control were identified.
