Senior officials of the Anti-Corruption Agency met April 7 with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund, led by the head of the IMF mission in Uzbekistan, Ron van Roden.
For reference: The 190-country International Monetary Fund (IMF) seeks to strengthen global monetary cooperation, ensure financial stability, improve international trade, and promote employment and sustainable economic growth.
The Republic of Uzbekistan joined IMF on September 21, 1992.
Opening the meeting, Director of the Agency Akmal Burkhanov briefed the participants of the meeting with the latest reforms in the field of combating corruption in Uzbekistan, including amendments to the Law ‘On Combating Corruption’ and additional powers vested in the Agency, tasks and functions within the framework of the State Anti-Corruption Program 2021-2022, as well as the goals and objectives provided for in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On New Uzbekistan Development Strategy 2022-2026’, which are aimed at improving the anti-corruption policy.
Akmal Burkhanov also informed about the measures taken in the field of public procurement, the implementation of the Agency’s projects in the construction, banking, healthcare and others areas ‘Sphere without Corruption’, ‘Region without Corruption’ as well as the introduction of a system for income and assets declaration by public officials.
In turn, IMF representatives highly appreciated the formation of an anti-corruption policy in the country, as well as cardinal measures and changes in this area.
