On April 12, the Anti-Corruption Agency senior officials met with experts of the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Asia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the tasks and measures set out in the Roadmap for the further development of cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNODC for 2022-2025.
In particular, they discussed the compliance of Uzbek legislation with international anti-corruption standards and the Jakarta principles, the creation of a Regional Anti-Corruption Hub, and the participation of government agencies in the UNODC GRACE initiative.
For reference: These days Uzbekistan is undergoing a regular review of the UN Convention against Corruption. To organize these processes at a high level, working groups have been set up on individual chapters of the Convention under the leadership of the Director of the Agency and the Prosecutor General. Along with UN experts, representatives of the governments of the Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Maldives have been involved in these events as international experts.
The meeting participants noted that it is necessary to develop a Cooperation Plan that reflects specific areas of cooperation and ways to increase the role of civil society institutions, the business community and the media in combating corruption.
In turn, Regional Advisor Vladimir Kozin supported the Agency’s proposals and highly evaluated the work being done to raise the awareness of public officials and population in the fight against corruption, as well as the introduction of new mechanisms in this area.
In addition, UNODC experts will provide practical assistance in implementing projects for the business community to increase the country’s economic potential through joint efforts to combat corruption.
At the end of the meeting, the parties voiced hope for further fruitful cooperation.
