This April 14, the Anti-Corruption Agency executives held a meeting with James Callahan, Senior Program Advisor at US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
For reference: The US Department of State’s Bureau of International Drug Enforcement and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) plays an important role in training the national security forces of partner countries to develop policies and programs to combat drug trafficking and international crime.
In December 2021, the United States adopted the Strategy on Countering Corruption. The Strategy aims to better understand and respond to the transnational aspects of corruption, including additional measures to limit the ability of corrupt entities to use US and international financial systems to hide assets and launder illegal proceeds.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the trends in the anti-corruption policy of both countries. In particular, the executives of the Agency acquainted the guests with the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy 2022-2026 and the State Program for its implementation, as well as with the latest regulatory acts adopted in this regard. In turn, the American colleagues shared the information on the measures taken in the United States to combat corruption. They also made focus on the Strategy on Countering Corruption.
At the meeting, it was also proposed to provide technical assistance in the creation of the Virtual Academy by the Agency, to work closely in the creation of the Regional Anti-Corruption Hub in Uzbekistan.
In addition, the parties agreed on cooperation, joint events and projects, in particular, the organization of special training courses on combating corruption abroad to improve the skills and potential of the Agency’s officers and civil servants, as well as the visit of the Uzbek delegation to the United States.
