The Boston Globe places considerable emphasis on publication of articles on corruption cases, conducting investigative journalism in this area.
The meeting participants discussed the role of the press and the media in preventing and exposing corruption.
Members of the delegation got acquainted with the experience of The Boston Globe journalists in covering issues of combating corruption, establishing effective public control over corruption offenses.
During the talks, it was noted that openness and transparency, active public control are among the most effective tools for preventing corruption. In particular, the Boston Globe journalists provided detailed information about their experience of working with government officials, conducting investigative journalism in the field of combating corruption, and cooperating with civil society in this process.
In turn, members of the delegation spoke about the role of the press and the media in exposing the facts of corruption in Uzbekistan, the measures taken in the country to ensure the transparency in the activities of government agencies.
Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, noted that the introduction of openness in public administration in Uzbekistan, including the publication of information on the Internet for public use, bringing the level of transparency and quality of information in line with international standards is among the priorities for the Agency.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of professional development of journalists, strengthening their activities and capacity to cover corruption cases, cooperation in conducting journalistic investigations, and also agreed to organize special trainings in Uzbekistan with the involvement of US experts.
