These days, a delegation of Malaysia is visiting Uzbekistan, the main purpose of which is to exchange experience in the fight against corruption and develop bilateral cooperation.
On May 12, the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan received the Malaysian delegation.
During the talks, the parties exchanged views on the areas of the anti-corruption policy of both countries. In particular, the Agency presented the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy 2022-2026 and the State Program for its implementation, as well as the latest regulatory acts adopted in this regard.
Akmal Burkhanov,
Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan:
“Uzbekistan, as a full member of the UN Convention against Corruption, has embarked on large-scale reforms at the level of state policy in the field of combating corruption. The fact that a special structure has been created in charge of combating corruption indicates that the fight against corruption in our country goes really serious.
Most importantly, over the past three years, a number of positive results have been achieved aimed at preventing and eradicating corruption. In particular, the positions of Uzbekistan in international anti-corruption rankings have significantly improved.
But there are still many goals and tasks ahead. In particular, it is necessary to implement international standards in national legislation, and international practice with positive results serves a good help at that.
It is well known that Malaysia has many years of rich and productive experience in this regard. That is why close cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is of particular importance to us.”
In turn, the Malaysian colleagues shared information about the measures taken in their country to combat corruption, including national experience in this area as well as achievements.
Tan Sri Azam bin Baki,
Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (head of delegation):
“We have been waiting for this meeting for a whole year. In particular, since October last year, we have held several talks with representatives of the Agency, during which we expressed our readiness to share experience with the Agency and actively support its activities. This visit will be the beginning of our long-term partnership.
I think that the signing of an interdepartmental memorandum today will be an important event not only in the activities of our departments, but also in the history of Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
We are ready to establish mutually beneficial relations with the Agency. In particular, we are willing to cooperate in such important areas as the exchange of experience, training of personnel, exchange of information, technical assistance.
In particular, in Malaysia there is the Anti-Corruption Academy, which will become a platform for our cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan on personnel training. In addition, we intend to provide technical assistance for the creation of such an Academy in Uzbekistan.
No state or government body can win the fight against corruption alone, and therefore our joint efforts are important and relevant.”
The main event of the meeting was the signing of an interdepartmental Memorandum of Cooperation between the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
The Memorandum provides for cooperation in a number of important areas, including the organization of advanced training courses, the exchange of experience and capacity building, the exchange of information and professional materials on the prevention and fight against corruption, joint forums, seminars, trainings and conferences.
In order to strengthen public participation in the prevention and fight against corruption, the exchange of information on raising awareness of the population on anti-corruption issues will be established, as well as using media coverage and organizing various campaigns.
Technical advice on good governance in the public and private sectors, as well as assistance in the development of anti-corruption policies and strategies are also important areas of cooperation.
Events with the participation of representatives of the Malaysian delegation will last until May 15. Follow the news on our official pages.
