Samarkand is hosting the first regional seminar of the international format on the theme ‘Preventing and Combating Corruption in Investment Activities’.
The three-day event is organized jointly with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime within the framework of the project ‘Promoting sustainable development by supporting the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption in countries located along the Silk Road Economic Belt.’
For reference: This project aims to stimulate international cooperation in the field of preventing and combating corruption in investment projects, in particular, the establishment and support of an anti-corruption network of practitioners to enhance the exchange of information, best practices and knowledge, as well as to strengthen the capacity of the countries.
The network was officially launched as part of the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh on December 11-12, 2021.
To date, 16 countries have joined the network, including Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Georgia, Greece, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Montenegro, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
The seminar was organized by the Anti-Corruption Agency and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
The main goal of this prestigious event is to discuss practical, sound and promising approaches to preventing and combating corruption in the field of investment activity and investment policy in the countries participating in the network of experts.
The seminar will cover two topics, including the prevention of corruption, as well as the investigation of corruption offenses in the development and implementation of investment projects.
Within the framework of both topics, the participants of the seminar, in particular representatives of the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, will make presentations on the experience of their countries in the fight against corruption in the implementation of investment projects.
It is worth noting that the events are held online and offline.
Seven sessions will be organized over three days of the seminar. Following the discussions within the sessions, practical proposals and recommendations will be developed.
