On May 16-20, the Anti-Corruption Agency delegation visited Georgia to get acquainted with the ongoing anti-corruption reforms in the country, as well as to establish bilateral cooperation in the fight against corruption.
For reference: Georgia ranked 45th in the Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International in 2021.
During the visit, the delegation met with the heads and representatives of the Secretariat of the Anti-Corruption Council, the Public Service Development Agency, the State Procurement Agency, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance, the High Council of Justice, the State Security Service, prosecutors, and other government agencies and organizations.
During the meetings, members of the delegation got acquainted with the anti-corruption policy of Georgia, the activities of anti-corruption institutions, the process of declaring property and income of civil servants, the provision of public services and public procurement.
The Secretariat of the Anti-Corruption Council of Georgia composed of representatives of government agencies and organizations, civil society institutions and independent experts. Every two years, the Secretariat adopts an Anti-Corruption Strategy and monitors its implementation.
In 2009, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance was established, which deals with such crimes as tax evasion, smuggling, violation of customs laws, production, sale and use of counterfeit payment cards, fraud, embezzlement of budget funds, etc.
During the meetings, representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan also provided detailed information on the measures taken in Uzbekistan to combat corruption, as well as made presentation on the activities of the Agency, its goals and objectives.
During the meetings, an agreement was reached on the exchange of information in specific areas, and the establishment of expert advisory cooperation.
