The Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan has made a rating assessment of the anti-corruption activities in the regions of the country. According to the March results, the worst indicator showed Khorezm Region, where 13.962 billion soums were misappropriated in 16 objects of control.
This and other similar issues were reviewed and discussed on May 23 at a regular meeting of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council of Khorezm Region with the participation of the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Agency, members of the National Anti-Corruption Council, representatives of relevant ministries and departments and members of the Regional Council of People’s Representatives.
The meeting heard an analysis of corruption crimes in the energy system, as well as information on the work done to prevent corruption in this sector.
According to the data provided, in 2021, 63 criminal cases of corruption were sent to court against 94 people working in the country’s energy system.
Of the persons who committed these crimes, 91 officials of the district and city levels, three officials of the regional level. In total, they caused damage in the amount of 11.5 billion soums.
These indicators and figures call for further accountability of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council and law enforcement agencies of the region. Therefore, at the meeting, it was decided to use the capabilities of civil society institutions and the media in the fight against corruption, as well as to ensure active public control over the activities of government agencies and organizations.
During the discussions, the participants also exchanged views on the causes of corruption and ways to eliminate them.
In particular, it was recommended to organize regular hearings on sectors and systems with high rates of corruption, as well as thoroughly analyze anti-corruption processes. In addition, practical proposals were developed to improve work in this track. And specific tasks were set for the responsible persons.
