The Regional Anti-Corruption Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan held its regular meeting on May 24 to discuss the issues of effective implementation of anti-corruption reforms in the region.
The main attention at the meeting was paid to the results of studying the activities of deputy hokims by members of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council. According to the overall analysis, in 2021, in total, 36 crimes of corruption were committed by deputy hokims in the country, of which 9 or every fourth were committed by deputy hokims of districts and cities of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Of these crimes, four were related to the land allotment, four - to the theft of budgetary funds and state property, one - to the theft of credit funds. As a result, damage to the interests of the state and society amounted to 3.793 billion soums.
The meeting also considered similar cases of corruption, their causes and consequences.
The information of the prosecutor of the republic and the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers on this issue was heard.
They provided detailed information on plans to identify and eliminate corruption threats, ensure the openness of the system and involve civil society institutions and the general public in this process.
At the meeting, clarifications were also received from a number of district and city hokims, who did not take appropriate measures to prevent local corruption.
Following the event, the participants identified specific tasks to strengthen the fight against corruption and expressed the need for strict control over their implementation.
