These days, a delegation led by Jonathan Aves, Associate Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Senior Political Counsellor for Russia, Central Asia and Mongolia, is on a working visit to Uzbekistan.
The main purpose of the visit is to discuss political, social and economic reforms in Uzbekistan, as well as cooperation at the regional level.
On May 26, Jonathan Aves met with the executives of the Anti-Corruption Agency.
At the beginning of the meeting, Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, informed the guests about the latest reforms in the field of combating corruption in Uzbekistan, including amendments to the Law ‘On Combating Corruption’ and the powers vested in the Agency, changes in legislation aimed at improving anti-corruption policy.
The Agency director also spoke about the activities of the government agencies involved in the fight against corruption and their interaction with civil society institutions, as well as the current state of using the capabilities of the institution of public control in the fight against corruption.
The guests expressed their interest in the openness policy pursued in the country, the progress of reforms in this area, as well as the declaration of income and assets of civil servants, and the monitoring of public procurement.
During the negotiations, the delegation expressed its readiness to provide technical and expert assistance in expanding the list of open data in Uzbekistan, increasing the participation of small and medium-sized businesses in public procurement, as well as in eliminating problems and shortcomings in this area.
Following the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on establishing closer effective cooperation.
