Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, met June 1 with World Bank expert Laura Pop.
For reference: Laura Pop is a Senior Financial Sector Specialist with the World Bank Group Financial Stability and Integrity and a member of the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR) team.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Agency Director shared information on the progress of reforms in the field of combating corruption in the country, innovations and changes in legislation, in particular, on the ongoing work to introduce a system for declaring income and assets of civil servants.
The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On the State Civil Service’, approved by senators at the plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, provides for the mandatory submission of a declaration of income and assets by civil servants.
At the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues regarding specific criteria for declaring income and assets, including the basic information to be included in the declaration, declaration forms, rules for filling out, submitting and verifying them.
The parties also exchanged views on the process of digitalization of the declaration process, the creation and maintenance of an electronic system for verifying submitted information.
The parties noted that an important role in the successful implementation of the declaration system is played by international experience, proposals and recommendations of experts, in particular, conducting analytical studies and providing methodological assistance.
The meeting reached an agreement to continue cooperation in various areas of combating corruption, including declaring income and assets of civil servants, conflicts of interest and identifying corruption risks. Expert Laura Pop assured of the readiness of the World Bank to provide expert and technical assistance on this track.
