The Navoi Regional Anti-Corruption Council held its regular meeting on June 8, which discussed cases of corruption in the regional gas supply system, as well as measures taken to prevent corruption in this sector.
According to the data provided, in 2021, seven criminal cases were initiated against 11 people working in the Hududgaztaminot system of the region. They were charged with theft, embezzlement and fraud.
At the meeting, information was heard from the regional prosecutor and other officials on this issue, and an exchange of views took place on the causes of such violations and measures to eliminate them.
During the discussions, the implementation of the tasks outlined in the work plan of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council was also considered.
It was noted that in April 2022, Navoi Region with 22 corruption crimes was among the 5 regions with the worst indicators.
In the first quarter of 2022, when studying 44 out of 72 objects of control of the region, cases of illegal spending of budget funds in the amount of 1 billion 854 million soums were identified.
The meeting participants also emphasized the issues that need to be addressed to further improve the efficiency of the Regional Council. In particular, the Council should effectively use in its activities such tools as control and monitoring activities, organization of hearings.
In addition, the need was noted for further strengthening the involvement of the population in the fight against corruption by strengthening cooperation with NGOs and the media.
Following the meeting, the participants put forward proposals and recommendations for taking specific measures to increase the responsibility of the members of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council, as well as to eliminate corruption in the gas supply system.
