Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, received June 22 Eni Gjergji, Economic Adviser, Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities.
The Agency has been closely cooperating with the OSCE for two years already to ensure the openness of the activities of government agencies. Last year, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, as well cooperation was established with the International Open Data Charter. A final report on the state of open data in the Republic of Uzbekistan was also prepared and discussed with ministries and departments.
As a logical continuation of fruitful cooperation, at today’s meeting the parties discussed in detail further areas of cooperation to ensure openness and transparency in the activities of government agencies and organizations.
After the welcoming part of the meeting, the Agency Director provided the guests with information on the ongoing reforms in the country in the field of openness policy to ensure openness and transparency in the fight against corruption. In particular, it was noted that the mechanisms for ensuring openness, as well as the effective implementation of public control mechanisms, the widespread use of digital and online technologies, further increase the accountability of government agencies to society.
In turn, Eni Gjergji highly appreciated the reforms in the country and expressed satisfaction with the results of projects implemented jointly with the OSCE, which contribute to the development of this area.
The parties exchanged views on continuing mutually beneficial cooperation and expanding the scale of joint projects.
During the meeting, the Agency Director emphasized the importance of increasing the institutional capacity of the bodies responsible for openness in the fight against corruption in Uzbekistan, as well as the expert and methodological support of the OSCE.
To this end, the parties agreed to continue cooperation in such areas as increasing the level of knowledge and skills of civil servants, launching an electronic platform for monitoring the level of openness based on best international practices.
Eni Gjergji supported this proposal. New joint projects in this area will be a continuation of the fruitful cooperation between the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan and the OSCE.
