The Anti-Corruption Agency hosted September 14 a presentation of projects on the topic ‘Participation of civil society institutions in preventing corruption’, organized by the Agency jointly with the Public Fund at the Oliy Majlis, the Ijtimoiy Fikr Republican Public Opinion Research Center and the Center for Retraining of Journalists.
Officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency and representatives of more than 40 NGOs and the media attended the presentation.
At the event, a report was presented on the results of the work carried out within the framework of the grant competitions announced by the Public Fund for local NGOs at the request of the Agency. Issues related to the implementation of the tasks set were also discussed.
Ijtimoiy Fikr Republican Public Opinion Research Center was the first to present the results of its public survey on the topic ‘Assessment of public awareness of the level of prevalence of corruption in society.’
As noted, during the survey, 1,100 citizens aged 18 and over were selectively interviewed in all regions of the country.
Based on the results of the survey, relevant recommendations were given to prevent the participation of citizens in corrupt situations.
The Center for Retraining Journalists made presentation on the topic ‘Raising citizens’ awareness on the fight against corruption: role of the media.’
As part of this project, the Center for Retraining of Journalists conducted two-day trainings in Bukhara, Samarkand, Navoi, Kashkadarya, Jizzakh and Andijan regions and Tashkent city, which involved 164 journalists, representatives of NGOs and bloggers.
Also, within the framework of the project, the Center prepared a manual ‘Factors for increasing the activity of the media and civil society in the fight against corruption’, which provides information on the participation of civil society institutions in the prevention of corruption, the place and role of the media in this area.
In addition, a social reel on corruption prevention was prepared for young people, which was aired on regional TV channels, social networks and during trainings.
Moreover, a competition among journalists, representatives of NGOs and bloggers under the motto ‘We All Suffer from Corruption!’ was held. Its participants submitted various articles, journalistic investigations and cartoons on a given topic.
It is worth noting that the presentation provided transparency of grant projects. The event participants received answers to their questions, as well as presented their proposals and recommendations.
