On October 27-28, Astana, Kazakhstan, hosted a regional workshop on the topic ‘Asset Recovery Through Improved International Cooperation in Europe and Central Asia.’
The workshop, organized within the framework of the action ‘Promoting Transparency and Action against Economic Crime’, was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies of Europe and Central Asia, experts from the Council of Europe, as well as representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan.
For reference: The Action on ‘Promoting Transparency and Action against Economic Crime’ (CA TAEC) is part of the Central Asia Rule of Law Program, which is a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe. It aims at strengthening capacities to fight and prevent economic crime and corruption in five Central Asian countries of (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) following regional and country-specific priorities.
During the workshop, the participants shared views on several topics, including new tools and mechanisms for the legalization of proceeds from crime and corruption, improving the asset recovery system, developing legal framework ensuring the return of confiscated assets, as well as the practice of managing assets and others.
