This December 2, the Anti-Corruption Agency, together with the National Anti-Corruption Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP, organized a seminar on the topic ‘Effective coordination of anti-corruption activities of government agencies in the regions’ for regional anti-corruption councils.
Secretaries of regional anti-corruption councils, employees of NGOs and others attended the seminar.
For reference: Regional Anti-Corruption Councils were established in 14 regional units in 2021 based on the decision of the National Council.
The main task of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council is to coordinate the implementation of state policy in the field of combating corruption in the region.
Regional councils are collegiate bodies, which include heads of regional administrations, lawmakers, representatives of law enforcement agencies, NGOs, the media and the business community.
This event was organized in order to improve the efficiency of the regional councils, improve the skills of executive secretaries and other members of the councils in terms of the correct organization of activities, exchange of experience between regional councils, improve mutual dialogue and joint elimination of shortcomings.
During the seminar, an exchange of views took place on the current problems facing the regional councils and the measures that need to be taken to solve them. A presentation was made of the activities of regional councils, which showed a positive trend in their work.
Also during the seminar, the participants were given detailed information on the exemplary organization of the activities of regional councils, work with the National Council and the Agency, as well as regional government agencies and organizations, establishing effective interaction with public organizations, the media and the public, ensuring public control in the fight against corruption.
In particular, issues of organizing work based on the methodology for rating the activities of regional councils were discussed, as well as presentations were made by members of the councils who organized the work in an exemplary manner.
In addition, an exchange of views took place on important aspects of the effective organization of public control and public hearings for representatives of regional councils.
During the seminar, international experts provided the necessary information and practical recommendations on the cooperation of regional councils with civil society and the media, a gender approach in the implementation of anti-corruption projects and programs, in particular, the development of local initiatives.
The participants of the seminar paid special attention to information regarding the coordination of the work of anti-corruption bodies at the local level and Finnish experience in this area.
At the end of the event, the participants were given the task of developing and implementing practical proposals aimed at enhancing the activities of the councils and increasing their efficiency.
