On June 26, the Anticorruption for Development (AC4D) Global Forum: Restoring Trust began its work in Washington, DC.
The main purpose of the forum is to share knowledge and experience between policymakers and practitioners, identify areas of cooperation and priority areas, including transparency in procedures for disclosing information on beneficial ownership, use of data and technology, procurement and contract management, and ensuring the rule of law.
For reference: The Forum brought together more than 150 partners, leaders, and practitioners from government, private enterprise, academia, civil society, foundations, and other international development organizations working in anticorruption and integrity.
During the sessions, the participants pay special attention to the relevance of the fight against corruption in a consistent and sustainable development, factors contributing to institutional changes in this regard, raising public awareness of corruption and its consequences.
In addition, issues are discussed regarding the exposure of corrupt individuals and organizations, the role of investigative journalism in identifying corruption, compliance with regulations, preventing and detecting corruption, etc.
Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, who delivered a speech at the plenary session of the Global Forum on the topic ‘The Role of Accountability Institutions’, told foreign representatives about the main tools for fighting corruption in Uzbekistan.
The participants were informed about the results of the Agency’s activities in the field of formation and implementation of anti-corruption policy, coordination of the activities of responsible government bodies, as well as ensuring cooperation with the public.
In particular, the activities of compliance control units responsible for preventing and combating corruption in government bodies and organizations, the rating of effectiveness of the fight against corruption, the procedure for disclosing information about the beneficial owner, the introduction of the List of information to be disclosed, and the Openness Index system.
During the discussions, the participants noted significant progress in the introduction of effective anti-corruption mechanisms in Uzbekistan, in particular, in ensuring the transparency and accountability of government bodies.
