The Anti-Corruption Agency hosts a meeting September 4 with a delegation of Japan headed by Tadahiko Ito, Chair of the Standing Committee on Judicial Affairs, House of Representatives, member of the Japan-Uzbekistan Inter-Parliamentary Group.
The main purpose of the meeting is to discuss the prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the field of combating corruption.
Welcoming the guests, Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, emphasized the relevance of international standards and best foreign experience to further improve the effectiveness of state policy and reforms in the field of combating corruption in Uzbekistan.
“Special attention is paid to the effective use of Japan’s best practices, since the country is a time-tested strategic partner, and relations with Japan are developing even more on the principles of mutual trust and respect,” he said.
In particular, in 2022, the Agency delegation visited Japan and exchanged mutual experience with a number of departments and organizations, including JICA, Nagoya University, UNAFEI, the Ministry of Justice, etc. In addition, representatives of Uzbekistan actively participate in the annual international anti-corruption workshop in Japan.
To date, a number of meetings and negotiations have been held with representatives of JICA on the development and implementation of a technical project to combat corruption for 2024.
In turn, the head of the delegation of Japan, Tadahiko Ito, highly evaluated the cooperation between the countries and its effectiveness in the fight against corruption and expressed his readiness to consistently continue constructive dialogue and cooperation.
In particular, the sides reached an agreement to continue the dialogue in order to develop specific mechanisms for mutual cooperation in a number of areas, including ensuring integrity in the civil service, organizing training for civil servants, and improving legislation to effectively combat corruption.
